Latitude 53 Society of Artists logo
    Mandate:

Latitude 53 Society of Artists is a not-for-profit artist run centre. Its purpose is to encourage contemporary artistic endeavors and to foster the development and exhibition of experimental art forms. Latitude 53 runs a 1800 square foot gallery, as well as a second programmable space. In addition Latitude offers a resource and information centre.

Latitude 53 provides a forum for dialogue about contemporary art practice through exhibitions, performances, readings, seminars and interpretive programming. Artists are given the opportunity to exhibit artwork that, because of its aesthetic; socio-political, or conceptual focus, may not conform to the restrictions of commercial or other public exhbition structures. By endeavoring to provide a non-coercive environment we help guarantee the freedonm of the artists, and give the public access to new forms of expression.

Latitude 53 Society of Artists is proud to present Happy Come; which is Edmonton's first showcase of all local, electronic sound artists. Happy Come will be a step beyond spinning records; the featured artists will create their own unique, evolving sound. We will also have visual eye candy by Linzi McIntyre, who will work with 16mm film projectors to collaborate with the artists for a multimedia encounter.
